Harmony Of The Spheres
In May of 2013 I was asked by Diggy Kat, an award-winning DJ and radio personality in Los Angeles, if I'd be interested in doing a one hour monthly radio show. Diggy's pitch was that I could play whatever I liked - that I would have total creative freedom as to what I wanted to do with that hour. He had me hooked pretty well with that but one of the other things that intrigued me about doing it was that the station I would be on generally played pretty heavy/industrial rock and I figured that the demographic of the listeners was fairly young - people in their 20's. With that in mind, and with the way all of this sort of dovetailed with my thesis that we're more than capable of changing stylistic gears on the fly, I decided to try it. So I called the show "Harmony Of The Spheres" (which struck me as having all sorts of positive connotations) and made the episodes as musically eclectic as possible while taking some time to discuss the musical threads that weave through virtually all music. Hook 'em with something they know, and then use that as a bridge to something they'll like but would never have otherwise checked out.
Humans apparently dig the show and I have fun doing them, so this has continued now into a second year of programs. In an exciting development, Diggy Kat has started his own station and when that happened, we moved the show with him. So, to check out a new program, just circle your calendar on the third Wednesday of each month - the show airs at 7 in the west and 10 in the east on Lucky Star Radio.
Incidentally, I have been asked repeatedly if I plan on podcasting the show or if there will be a web page where past episodes will be posted. Despite my best efforts to accomodate this request I have not been able to pull this off for a variety of reasons. I was surprised by just how many obsticles there can be in this regard, but rest assured if you contact me and want an episode (or several), I'll be sure to e-mail them to you. I can be reached at email@example.com.
